Management Supervisory Service

The Management Supervisory Service (MSS) is comprised of employees who have responsibility for project management and supervision of staff. All positions in the MSS are "at-will" appointments. For information on what to do when an MSS employee no longer has project management or staff supervision responsibilities, please read this bulletin*.

Benefits of MSS include improved accountability, improved performance, and improved caliber of managers and supervisors. The MSS was implemented in tandem with a new performance management system, and supervisors and managers are required to take several management training courses each year through the Center for Workforce Development. In addition, the improved competitiveness of salaries enhances the District's ability to attract better quality managers.

MSS Training and Development: Currently there are eight required courses for all MSS employees, four of which will be required in FY02: Executive Writing, Project Management, Procurement, and Public Budgeting. Course descriptions and registration information are under the Center for Workforce Development (CWD): Training and Development.
